A Guide to Installing Driver Upgrades for Windows 98/Me/NT/2K/XP
Phase 1 - Downloading Primera's printer driver files intended for Windows 98/Me/NT/2K/XP computers have names ending in ".exe" and are self-extracting PKZip archives. A PKZip archive is a package, containing one or more files, that has been "zipped" to make it smaller and provide easy downloading of numerous files simultaneously. An archive that is self-extracting is capable of "unzipping" itself. Your browser program may be capable of "unzipping" the file you select automatically. Once the file has been completely downloaded to your computer, simply run the executable file. To do this:
  1. Double click on the file.
  2. Type in the directory where you would like the files unzipped. -Remember this directory. You will need to know where the driver is located when installing the driver.
  3. The archive will "unzip" itself, revealing its contents as a new list of files within the directory specified.
Phase 2 - Installing Windows 98/Me/NT/2K/XP GDI Printer Driver
  1. First reboot the PC.
  2. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and select Printers.
  3. Highlight the existing printer driver for your Primera printer by clicking on it, and delete it by pressing the Delete key.
  4. While deleting the existing driver, you will get a message that reads, "Some files were used only for this printer and are no longer needed. Would you like to delete these files now?" When this message appears, select the Yes button.
  5. Once the existing printer driver is deleted, reboot the PC again.
  6. Start the install, Click Start, Settings, Printers and follow the Add Printer Wizard instructions. To install the driver, click the Have Disk Button and browse the location where the files were extracted.
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete installation. When prompted, do not have Windows print a test print. Once installed, the icon for your Primera printer will appear in the Printers folder.
